Abstract

Fn is a widespread extra cellular matrix and body fluid glycoprotein. Two forms of Fn exist; a soluble dimeric form that is synthesized by the hepatocytes and secreted into the blood stream (plasma Fn) and a multimeric form made by certain cell types and deposited as fibrils in the extracellular matrix (cellular Fn).

Fn have many physiological functions, and was found to play a role 111 different diseases as; bleeding disorders, wound heading, rate of thrombolysis, phagocytic functions of the polymorph nuclear leucocytes, liver, cardiovascular, lung, tumors and rheumatic diseases. Fn was formed and secreted by all cells of the of the male genital organs and tract. It was found on the testicular and epididymal sperm surface and in appreciable amounts in the seminal plasma.

The role of this material 111 human reproduction, sperm formation and its different functions did not take much attention but, it was proved to have a role in seminal clot formation, sperm - oval interaction and protection of the sperm from being phagocytosed in the male as well as in the female genital tract.

We aimed by this study to investigate the seminal plasma Fn level in infertile patients and to study its correlation to the different semen parameters.

A group of 30 randomly selected infertile and 15 healthy fertile males - as a control group - were included in this study.

For each thorough history and examination was done. Seminogram -- using autosperm analysis system -- and measurement of seminal plasma Fn levels - using radial immune diffusion plates - were performed.
