Abstract Assays employed for the detection of AFP vary considerably in sensitivity, ranging from immunodiffusion to radioimmunoassay. These different immunological assays depends on the antigenic properties of serum AFP for its determination. Various assays were used to find the optimal method using AFP for the diagnosis of liver cancer including radioimmunoassay and enzyme immunoassay. The aim of this study is to evaluate reliability of AFP measured by different methodology including chemiluminescence (CLIA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in hepatocellular ..carcinoma (HCC) patients .This study was conducted on 150 subjects of whom 100 subjects were patients with HCC, 57 males and 43 females and their age ranged between 45-67 years, and 50 subjects were normal healthy controls, 27 males and 23 females of the same age group .All patients and controls were examined clinically after taking their past history then the following investigations were done: 1-Liver function tests including AST, ALT, Alkaline phosphatase, Total bilirubin, Direct bilirubin , Albumin and Total protein .2-Hepatitis viral markers including HBsAg and anti-HCVAb. 3-Scruin AFP level was determined using CLIA and ELISA.techniques. |
