Abstract

Self-Compacting concrete (SCC) and fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars are the most promising new construction materials. Investigation carried out in the thesis dealt with the effect of casting and reinforcing beams with self-compacting concrete and FRP bars. An experimental program was executed to investigate the behavior of twelve reinforced concrete beams. The models are classified into four groups. Each group contains three beams from traditional normal, self-compact and high-strength concrete, respectively. The first three groups are reinforced by steel with three different ratios; under, balance and over reinforcement ratios, respectively. The last group is reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer FRP bars
The properties of concrete as compressive, splitting tensile, bending strength and modulus of elasticity were studied. Deflections, angles of rotation at two points of support, strains at compressive and tensile fibers, and the crack propagation patterns for each spacemen were recorded
A nonlinear computer program based on 3D finite element technique was extended to study the behavior of the tested beams. An isoperimetric element with 20 nodes was used the behavior of tested beams. An isoperimetric element with 20 nodes was used was used in the analysis. Each node has three degrees of freedom the reinforcing bars were represented by embedded bars in the
