Abstract Hepatitis C is a disease that affects the liver. It is caused by a virus called the hepatitis C virus . the hepatitis C Virus is a major public health problem . it is a common and growing problem , often affecting persons with psychiatric and substance use problems. About 200 million people worldwide are infected with HCV virus and 4.9 million of those are in the united states . Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major health problem in Egypt. Approximately 10% of the population having evidence of past or chronic infection . Egypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus in the world , ranging from 6 to 28% with an average of approximately 13.8% in the general population. Neuropsychiatric symptoms are widely reported in association with hepatitis C virus causes a decrease in quality of life even in the absence of major cognitive impairment Depression is the most common psychological problem in HCV infected individuals. Depression has a significant effect on quality of life patient by which they loss their interest in life and ability to obtain good medical care.
