Abstract This study included 20 patient ( 8 males/ 12 females) with mean age of44.6 +13.78years and l11ean duration of hemodialysis 6.4 +3.25 years on regular thrice weekly hemodialysis for a period of 6 months.In this study about 55% of the patients showed pulmonary complications in fOrI11 of bronchopneumonia, actue bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, pleural effusion, tuberculous bacilli and pulmonary oedema, The caustive organisms in these cases of pulmonary infection were staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus viridons haernophillus, pneumococci and tuberculosis. This bronchopulmonary . infection may be due to the immune compromised state of the patients, either humoral, cell mediated immunity or local defense mechanims this may be due to deblitating illness, associated il11111Urle suppressive drugs, and long term recumbancy by hemodialysis procedure it self. Pleural effusion which was trartsudative in nature, may be due to congestive heart failure, volume overload, idiopathic, nephrotic syndrome, salt and water retension or subclavian catheter leak. |
