Abstract Gastrointestinal stromal tumours(GIST) are relatively difficult to diagnose due to the morphological similarities they share with many other tumours at the light microscoping level GIST represents the most common mesenchymal tumour of the gastrointestinal tract. They can also occur primarily outside the GIT and those are designated as extragastrointestina stromal tumours (EGISTs) CD117 (c-kit) is a specific marker that is recorded to show positivity in 80& -100% of GISTs The aim of this work is emphasizing the role of CD117 in GIST and throwing the light on their clinical data, pathological features and biologic behavior The material of this study included 42 cases of GISTs which were received at the pathology department of ain shams university hospital during the period from January 2001 to January 2006 |
