Abstract The aim of this study was to assess patients’ experiences before, during, and after ECT, in order to participate in improving the care offered to patients. The research is a descriptive survey, involving 50 patients (25 patients received ECT for the first time and 25 received it more than once). The study revealed that 68% of the patients had a positive attitude toward ECT in general, 62% are satisfied with ECT outcomes, 74% are satisfied with staff and 80% of the patients had positive experiences toward ECT. However, all patients are not satisfied with staff explanations. Fear from ECT emerged as a dominant theme. The research recommended to prepare the patient psychologically before ECT session and to apply post care after ECT session. A Larger sample is needed in order to explore and address patients’ experiences of ECT. |
