Abstract

The present study was conducted on 50 stroke patients of different stages.
It comprised of 29(58%) males and 21(42%) females.
Their ages ranged between 52 and 78 with a mean age of 65 years old.

The aim of the study was to explore and demonstrate the findings that can be afforded by the transcranial ultrasonography, the non imaging transcranial Doppler sonography (TCD) and the imaging transcranial color-coded Doppler sonography (TCCS), with more emphasis, in the clinical work, on the TCCS.

The study was conducted in two large hospitals, with, in addition, extracranial carotid duplex done for all the subjects and MRA done for some of the patients.

By the time the subjects were examined by transcranial Doppler or Duplex sonography, the state of the extracranial vessels was known, so as to help in the interpretation of the findings and also help building a complemented map of the hemodynamic state of cerebral circulation.
