Abstract - 60 - SU~~ARY AND CONCLUSION ---------------------- This study was performed to show the effects ofcigarette (tobacco) smoking on functions of polymorphonuclear leucocytes (neutrophils) mainly chemotaxis and phagocytosis. The participants in the study were two groups divided as: (1) Group I: including 21 healthy young (20-30 years old) men who were heavy smokers (2 boxes/day). (2) Group II: including 10 healthy young non smoking men. We used the leading front technique for chemotaxis study and killed Candida albicans method for phagocytosis. Our results show that there is no effect of cigarette smoking on chemotaxis and phagocytosis of Candida by polymorphonuclear leucocytes (neutrophils). |
