Abstract

SUMMARY
• Our study was done on 100 infertile women (either primary or
secondary) of at least one year duration attending Benha University
hospital.
• For all the infertile women combined hysteroscopy and laparoscopy
was done after the basic infertility investigations including HSG.
• Our aim was to detect the role of combined laparoscopy and
hysteroscopy and to compare the laparoscopic and hysteroscopic
findings to those found by H.S.G.
• Pelvic laparoscopic findings were abnormal in 74% and normal in
26% whereas on HSGonly 43% were abnormal and 57% were
normal.
• By laparoscopy 69% of those normal HSG findings were proved to
suffer from intrapelvic abnormalities giving false negative rate of 69%
for HSG. The accuracy rate for HSG was 86% with false positive rate
ofl4%.
• Hysteroscopic findings in 100 infertile women showed)4% of the
cases to be abnormal and 66% to be normal. Whereas on HSG,
abnormal findings were found in 16% giving a false positive rate of
31% and an accuracy rate of 69%. Normal findings were found in
84% of the cases when examined by HSG, giving a false negative rate
of27%.
