Abstract

The space charge caused by AC corona is constrained in the vicinity of the conauctor because the periodic reversal of the electric field. The theoretical calculation of the AC corona power loss is very rare and has been applied only for coaxial cables. Many excperiments had been done to study the performance of AC corona for different gap configurations. The voltage-charge relation is the most imporetant result of these experiments to calculate thew AC corona power loss sand, ever since. It has been the priome omportance in the theoretical study of the AC corona mechanisms.
For a model to simulate the corona effect of the conductor correctly. It is necessary to demonstrate that the same voltage-charge curve is recorded experimentally. Therefore, to verity that curve for an arrangement, several simplifying assumptions should be used. The most important of them are: the constant electric field at the surface of the coronating cvonauctor, the termination of corona at the peak of the applied voltage and the effect of the residual space charge remaining from the preceding half cycles in lowering the ionization onest voltage. Based on these assumptions, the author developed a method for calculating the AC corona loss of single-phase conductor-to-plane transmission lines. The space charges are simulated by discreteline charges and the C-S technique is used to compute the charge emission from the coronating conductor during corona periods.
