المستخلص
The main aims of this thesis are firstly understanding and analyzing the informal housing development in the Egyptian cities by studying that phenomena through the following:
1- Its national and local reasons.
2- General and specific conditions of it
3- Its urban, social and economic characteristics.
4- Demonstration of positive and negative sides of the phenomena.
Secondly, recognizing the most suitable process to deal with that phenomens and establishing a comprehensive sequence as a framework dealing with the problem.
The Thesis consists of four chapters:
Chapter 1:
Contains a brief presentation of the development of informal housing in the light of urbanization spread and the local motivities which support this problem, besides the recognization of the features of the informal settlements.
Chapter 2:
Includes detailed studies about the characteristics of the informal housing through:
a. Its urban characteristics and the existing infrastructures and the efforts made for its establishment.
b. Studying of the social and economic characteristics of households.
c. Demonstration of different approaches which deals with urban problems. and choosing the up-grading as a suitable approach.
Chapter 3:
Includes a study for recognization of the up-grading aspects and focusing on the public participation as one of main elements in the up-grading process.
Chapter 4:
Shows a comprehensive criterion for the stages of up-grading process from national level to the implementation on the local level. Also, it includes an investigation and analyzing the matual exclusive and then obtaining a flow-chart showing the series of different stages of up-grading. The researcher analyses some chosen experimental projects to show the agrement and disagreement betweenthe practical applications and theoretical criterion.
Results and recommendations:
It summarizes the main conclusions arrived by the present research. It contains definite recommendations to raise efficiency of the processes of up-grading.
