Abstract Theoretical studies have been made in this thesis to investigate effect of loading microwave ovens by the process materials in mode-tuning behaviour and distribution of electromagnetic field components of propagating modes. Detailed analysis are done for the influence of dielectric properties, location and thickness of the treated material in behaviour of resonant frequencies of propagating modes and field parameters. Prediction of temperature rise at the surface of the heated material is discussed. Analytical expressions of electromagnetic field components and transcendental equations which describing mode tuning behaviour, of both transverse electric, TE lmn and transverse magnetic, TM lmn, modes propagating in the loaded microwave ovens are derived. A general computer programme is developed to solve numerically the transcendental equations. The computed data are for the dimensions of a rectangular cavity of a cvommercial microwave oven and at the heating frequency of 2.45 GHz. Numerical examples demonstrating the variation of resonant frequencies of ptropagating modes and their field parameters as a function of thickness, location and permittivity of the processed material are given. Behaviour of temperature rise at the surface of the heated material is determined approximately from computed data of square values of electric field components of propagating modes. |
