Abstract

Effects of constant (17, 27 and 37 °C) and changed (from 17 or 37 to 27 °C) extrinsic temperature on the vector competence of the tick O.savignyi to Borrelia sp. isolated from natural population were investigated. All tick nymphal and adult stages acquired the infection in their gut and hemolymph by feeding on infected hamster. Generally, the increase of the extrinsic ambient temperature at which the infected ticks was kept from 17 to 27 or 37 °C was crucial in increasing infection rate and number of spirochetes localized and their persistence in each of the tested organs or tissue of adult female (gut, hemolymph, salivary gland, ovary and coxal organ) throughout the period of study (90 day post feeding the tick on infective meal).
