Abstract

Bleeding from esophageal varices is a major complication of chronic liver disease that is common in Egyptians. Early diagnosis of portal hypertension may able us to prevent and control esophageal varices rupture and bleed. The present work aims to early diagnosis of portal hypertension though non-invasive techniques that can be applied on every hepatic patient with less cost and effort. One hundred- thirty-mine hepatic patients with different grades were included in the study. Patients were selected from those attending the inpatients and outpatients clinics at the liver Gastitute-Menoufiy a university. The patients were classified into three groups: Groups 1: - 89 patients have no esophgeal or gastric varices in lubing 55 male and 34 female. Thir age ranges from 29-64 years old. Groups: - II 27 cirrhosis patients have small esophageal varices including 14 male and 8 female. Their age ranges from 29-52 old. Groups III: - 23 cirrhotic patients have large esophageal varices including 17 male and 6 female. Their age ranges from 30-50 years old.
