Abstract
The objectives of th~s study was to investigate the effect of five seedbed preparation treatments and three types of ploughs on some field performance characteristics of the plough machmes and some pldyield characteristcs of the cotton crop. The following seedbed preparation machmes were used : a) disc harrow, b) chsel plough, and c) sub-soiler plough. These treatments were used to test the following seedbed preparation combinations which will be referred to as treatments of A,B,C,D,E in the rest of the summary:A) disc harrow only B) chisel one-pass + disc harrow,C) chisel two-pass + disc harrow, D) chsel one-pass + s~ib-soile+r disc harrow, and E) chsel two-pass + sub-soiler + disc harrow. All were followed by ridging. The experiments were carried out at Sakha Agricultural Research Station, ARC, for two cotton growing seasons, 1992 and 1993. The statistical design was complete randomized block involving 5 treatments and 4 replications. The 5 tillage systems and the 3 types of ploughs were evaluated by studying their effects on 8 characteristics of the seedbed preparation Machines.
