Abstract

The present investigations were conducted in the apiary of the Faculty of Agricult~~Krca rr El-Sl~cikhd, i~ringth c seasons of citrus (2013- 1614), clover (2514-416) and cotton (1 17-2218) throughout two successive years of 1998 and 1999, to obtain some information on the effect of transferring the apiaries on honey bee activities such as flight activity, gathering of nectar and sugar concentration contents, gathering and storing pollen, brood rearing activity, secretion of royal jelly, wax secretion and honey yield. Thirty equal strength colonies were used in this experiment. Colonies were divided into three groups each of 10 replicates, (G. A) was kept in the apiary of the Fac. Agric. Kafr El-Sheikh without transferring, (G. B) was transferred to citrus orchards in Rasheed Region during citrus season, I then returned to the apiary of Fac. Agric Kafr El-Sheikh and (G. C) was transferred to citrus in the forementioned site , clover in l’era (Dakahlia) during clover season and cotton in Desouk Kafr EI-sheikh Region . Results obtained were as follows:- I- Flight activity: Concerning citrus season, the highest number of incoming workers 1 colony/minute was obtained from G.B (41.60 & 45.55), while G.A (33.7 1& 35.00) was the least one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. In this respect during clover season the highest one was found in G.C (48.40&44.88), while G.A gave 45.038~43.26 incoming workers I colonylrninute during 1998 and 1999, respectively. In respect of cotton season, the largest number of incoming workers was given from G.C (50.2862 43.44), while G.A gave 40.87& 36.72 incoming workers I colonylminute in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Summary 11- Nectar gathering and sugar concentration I- Weight of incoming worker: I The highest weight of incoming worker during citrus season was obtained from G. B (100.64& 100.95 mg.), while G.A (74.538~7 8.571ng.) was the least one in 1998 and 1999 respectively. In this respect during clover season, the highest weight of worker was found in G.C (84.97& 91.75mg.), while G.B (80.89& 89.25mg.) was the lowest one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. Concerning cotton season the highest one was found in ~.~’(93.57& 79.97mg.), while G.A (88.048~ 78.13mg.) was the lowest one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. 2- Weight of nectar sac: The highest weight of nectar sac during citrus season was obtained from G.B (17.088~2 3.87mg.), while G.A (6.478~5 .65mg.) was the least one in 1998 and 1999, respectively. During clover season, the highest record was found in G.C (15.48& 19.25mg.), while G.A (1 3.078~1 8.92mg.) was the least one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. In respect to cotton season,’the highest weight of nectar sac was found in G.C (20.528~1 1.97mg.), while G.A (17.408~1 0.89 mg.) was the least one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. 3- Sugar concentration: The highest concentration of sugar nectar sac content during citrus season was obtained from G.C (15.408~ 16.33%), while G.A (12.788 14.42%) was the least one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. Concerning clover season, the highest record was given from G.C (2 1.708~12. 64%), while G.A (1 9.80& 2 1.18%) was the least one during 1998 and 1999, respectively. Summary In regard to cotton season, the largest concentration of sugar was abtained from G.C (18.508~ 18.04%), while G.A (18.00& 17.61%) was the least one during 1998 and 1999, respectively.
