Abstract Studies on the biological control of certain lepidopterous insects The three lepidopterous insects; the cotton leaf-worm, Spodoptera Uttoralis, the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossyplella and the greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella are considered to be the most injurious pests in Egypt. In the past few years, the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana, the bacterium. Bacillus thuringiensis proved to be effective for the control of many lepidopterous insect pests. The present investigation was conducted in the Fac. Of Agric. at Tanta during the period from 1999-2002 to study the following points: 1- Evaluate the efficacy of the fungus, Beauveria bassiana as a biological control agent against different larval instars of the three lepidopterous insect pests. 2- Evaluate the effectiveness of some Bacillus thuringiensis commercial bioinsecticides for the control of the same pests. |
