Abstract This study was performed in emergency hospital of tanta university on 60 patients who had severe head injury(GCS). Patients with associated injuries (cervical injuries, long bone fractures, thoracic, abdominal and pelvic injuries) or those with severe systemic disease (diabetes, hypertension, previous myocardial infarction, stroke, chronic renal and hepatic failure) were excluded fiom this study. All patients had brief neurological examination and their GCS was evaluated. Patients were divided into 3 groups (each group 20 patients). Group I (Current therapy): Artificial ventilation, osmotic diuretic, loop diuretic, antiepileptic, prophylactic antibiotic, prophylactic Hz receptor antagonist and hypertonic saline 2.7% (923 mOsm/L) as resuscitation solution. Group I1 (Thiopental group) : Current therapy + thiopental Wsion 2mg/kg/h for the first 3 days postinjury. |
