Abstract
’Il’wo field cxpcrimcnts wcrc co~~ductcadt ihc far111o f Faculty of Agriculture, Kafr El-Sheikh, Tanta University, Egypt during the two rice scasons 1996 and 1997. The main objective of this i~lvcstigation was to study the effect of five nitrogen levels namely (0, 96, 144, 190 and 240 kg Nlha) and rice cul tivars 011 sorne growth attributes, yield components, yield, chemical and technological properties of rice grains of four rice cultivars, namely: Giza 176, Giza 177, Giza I78 and Giza 181. A split-plot design with four replications was used. l’he 1nai11 plots were devoted to the nitrogen levels. While. the sub plots were assigned to the rice cultivars. The area of each sub-plot was 15 in’ (3x5 in). Studied characters : 1. Growth attributes : Aftcr 75 days from sowing thrcc sanlplcs wcrc collcckd in fifteen days interval and the following characters were estimated : 1- Days to heading 2- Piantheight(crn) 3- Flag leaf arealcrn’ 4- Nu~nber of tillcrslhill 1. Yield c11aractcl.s : 1 - Panicle length (cm) 2- Number of filled grairls/panicle 3- Number of unfilled grainslpanicle 4- Weight of one thousand grain 5- Panicle weight (g)< - Number of panicleslhill , 7- Grain yield (tonha) 8- Biomass yield (tonlha) 9- Harvest i~~de%x 11 1.
