Abstract Psoriasis is a multifactorial, genetically determined inflammatory and proliferative disease of the skin of controversial etiology. Angiogenesis, which is the process of sprouting of new blood vessels from preexisting ones, is a recognized event in psoriasis. The key factor in promoting angiogenesis in the psoriatic plaques is the vascular endothelial growth factor which is an endothelial cell specific mitogen that represents the major angiogenic activity in the human epidermis. VEGF and its two receptors flt-1 and KDR are over expressed in lesional psoriatic skin. |
