Abstract

Two-year field experiment was conducted in 1995 and 96 seasons in the Experimental hrm, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University, Ihfr El-Sheikh, Egypt, to study the effect of water deficit during different growth stages on productivity and quality of six rice cultivars. A strip-plot design with fota replications was used. The inail1 plots were assigned to the il-rigation treatments, while rice cultivars were allocated in the sub-plots. The flooding treatments; water deficit at identified growth stages were done as follows : Continuous flooding (Control) 0 Seven days water deficit at the vegetative phase (21 days after transplanting). Fourteen days water deficit at the vegetative phase (21 days after transplanting). Seven days water deficit at the reproductive phase (0 days fiom panicle initiation). Fourteen days water deficit at the reproductive phase (0 days from panicle initiation). Seven days water deficit at the repining phase (0 day from heading). a Fourteen days water deficit at the repining phase (0 day from heading). Summary The rice cultivars Giza 17 1, Giza 176, Giza 177, Giza 18 1, Gz 1368 and IR28 were used. Three 30 days old seedlings were transplanted in hills 20 x 20 cm apart. At, harvest, growth characters, yield, yield components and some grain quality characters were determined and the data were computed in both seasons and over the two seasons. The results are su~n~narizeads.
