Abstract

The present work was designed to study urinary alpha-lmicroglobulin as an early marker for renal affection in diabetic patients(insulin or non-insulin).The study included 70 subjects classified into 6 groups: Group (1): included ten normal apparently healthy subjects as a reference group for non-insulin diabetic patients.Group (2): included ten NlDDM patients without microal buminuria.Group (3): included twenty NlDDM patients with microalbuminuria.Group (4): included ten normal apparently healthy subjects as a reference group for insulin diabetic patients.Group (5): included ten IDDM patients without rnicroalbuminuria.Group (6): included ten IDDM patients with microalburninuria. All studied cases and control group were subjected to thorough history taking, thorough clinical examination and laboratory estimation of urinary alpha- I-m icroglobulin, microalbuminuria excretion rate, glycated haernoglobin, fasting and post prandial blood glucose, serum creatinine, and creatinine clearance. The present study showed that urinary alpha-l-microglobulin was higher in patients with or without rnicroalbuminuria (insulin or noninsulin)when compared to the control groups. Also alpha-lmicroglobulin showed a positive significant correlation with creatinine,
