Abstract Hepatitis C is a blood born virus transmitted parentally and infection results in a chronic a symptomatic carrier state for many years before the development of symptomatic liver disease (Thorburn et al.,2001) HCV is considered to be the major cause of hepatic morbidity in Egypt (Saeed et al., 1991; Kame1 et al., 1992 and Hibbs et al., 1993)HCWs are at risk of contracting HCV infection more than general population (Yardal et al., 2002). This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of HCV. This study was conducted on a total 648 HCWs from Tanta University hospital with age ranging fiom 18 to 58 years.Results obtained by examining them with 3rd generation ELISA followed by PCR test for positive ELISA and genotyping by PCR. |
