Abstract Jaundice following an operation upon the biliary tract is suggestive of a serious complication. The nature of its onest, its intensity, and the severity or degree of systemic manifeatations that may accompany it provides a basis of suspecting its cause and probable course. The causes are numerous and includes obstruction of the extrahepatic ductal system, cholangitis, intrahepatic cholangiolitic hepatitis, hepatic failure, carcinoma, primary or metastatic, viral hepatitis, toxic hepatitis due to medications, blood dyscrasias, transfusion reaction from improperly matched blood, pyelophlebitis, and other more rarely encountered conditions. |
