Abstract

The pathological studies concerned with the genetic control of both stem and leaf rust diseases were carried out via prevalent physiologic races indentification in middle and north Delta regions (Sakha and Gemmeiza Research Stations). Twenty nine of old and new releazed Egyptian wheat cultivars and the known international stem, leaf and yellow rust monogenic lines were evaluated to natural epiphytotics of rust diseases at different locations to identify those that posses any forms of resistance. The obtained results could be summarized in the following items : Greenhouse Studies : 1. Uredospores of r. graminis f. sp. tritici collected from diseased wheat plants of certain monogenic lines namely, 7b, 9e, @+/ 26, 27 and 30 grown at different locations, i.e. Sakha, Gemmeiza and Zarzora, were grouped into seven physiologic races. Race 11 followed by race 15 were the most predominant during both 1994 and 1995 growing seasons. Races 9,24 and 53 were determined in 1994 and absent in 1995, while both 17 and 19 races were detected in 1995 season on1,y.. 2. ~rkdos~oroefs -P. recondita f. sp. tritici collected from diseased plants of certain commercial wheat cultivars namely, Sakha 8, Sakha 61, Sakha 69, Giza 162, Giza 163, Giza 164, Giza 165, Gemmeiza - 1 and Tosson as well as certain monogenic lines i.e. -Lr’s 1, 2a, 10, 17, 18, 19,23 and 24 grown at different localities, i.e. Sakha,
