Abstract The discovery of the role of helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in upper gastrointestinal tract (UGIT) had an inormous impact in ch’nical management of upper G.I.T. diseases. The organism infects a significant ’proportion of the world’s population and there is a strong association between the risk of developing chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric cancer and infection of the gastric and duodenal mucosa by H.pylori.II pylori seems to be responsible for ulcer disease in more than 90% of duodenal ulcer (DU) and about 65% of gastric ulcer. The rest will be distributed related to the use of NSAIDS or aspirin, and very small numbers related to Zollinger Ellison’s syndrome or other causes. With the recognition of the importance of H. pylori in the patliogenesis of gastritis and peptic ulcer, treatment options have focused on the eradication of the organism. Its therapeutic approach has shown that eradication of the organism leads to improvement of the clinical condition of the patients and a significant reduction in the recurrence rate and symptoms. |
