Abstract Blunt abdominal trauma is a common cause of significant morbidity and mortality in children. Abdominal injuries account for approximately 10% of trauma deaths in childhood. In contrast to adults, evaluation of the traumatized child is often more difficult due to the child’s inability to co-operate in history taking and physical examination.Trends in the management of solid organ injuries have been changed over the last two decades, a conservative approach is now preferable whenever possible. Our study aimed at epidemiological assessment of blunt abdominal trauma in the pediatric age group that have been referred to Tanta University Hospital in one calendar year from December 2002 to November 2003 to evaluate the magnitude of this problem and to propose a simple algorithm for management of blunt abdominal trauma in children. |
