Abstract

1- This work deals with a systematic revision of the Egyptian taxa of the Genera, Bassia, All , Suaeda Forssk ex Scop, Traganum Del., Haloxyolon Bge, Cornulaca Del, and Halogeton C A Mey 2- The revision is based on field studies and collections kept in CAT, CAIIvI and fresh materials collected by the author from various parts of the country. 3- The study is based on~ a) Morphological characters Those of major systematic value are the Stem and Branches (jointed or not); Leaves, Fruiting perianth (winged or not; or with spines), Seed (vertical or horizontal), Embryo (annular or spiral) Characters of minor systematic value ai e those of the flowers (solitary or in a cluster); stigmas number as well as the habit of the plant. b) Comparative anatomical mvistigation of the leaf and old stein based on fresh matenal and to less extent on Herbarium specimens. 4- The attributes used in the anatomical investigation were those of the stem : Indumentum (Trichomes type); Epidermis; type of Cortical cells; Pericycle; Anamolous secondary thickening; Crystals; and Pith. Those of the leaf include; Epidermal cells;Mesophyll; Sheath of vascular bundle Crystals.
