Abstract This study was conducted electively on patients with portal hypertension and high-risk esophageal varices with or without history of bleeding. Ten patients were managed wieh hassab operation (splenectomy and gastro- esophageal devascularization) and twenty five patients were managed with segmental splenectomy with expraoeritoneal splenic tranaposition and gastro- esophageal devascularization with manual esophageal transection (in 15 patients) or stapler esophageal transection (in 10 patients). 27 were males and 8 patients were females with the age 50 years. ranged between 14 8 patients in this study gave history of mild attacks of haematemesis and\ or meleana which stopped spontaneously. |
