Abstract The effect of B-adrenergic recptor processes of oogenesise, maturation of and ovulation was investigated. blockers Graffian on the follicle The animals Used were rats due to:- - Similarity of the mechanisms involved in oogenesis, maturation of Graffian follicle and ovulation to man - Ability to determine the stages of estrous cycle accurately. The B. adrenergic receptor blockers used were - Propranolol hydroch!oride which is non selective and cree. blood brain barrier. - Nadolol ”which is non selective and doesn I t cross blood brain barrier. Metoprolol adrenergic receptor barrier. tartrate blocker which is and cross selective B blood brain The Sacrification of the animals at metestrus stage was Preferred than the Sacriflcation of them at Proestrous ~tage. The effect of sUbcutaneous injection of propranolol hydrochloride (3 mg/Kg Day) for 4 weeks was insignificant on the processes of oogenesis and ovulation. The sUbcutaneous injection of propranolol hydrochloride in a dose of (5 mg/kg/Day) for 8 weeks caused significant reduction in the number of growing Graffian follicles and corpora~ lutea and this effect was reversible. The sUbcutaneous injection of equipotent dose of nadolol (5.5 mg/Kg/D) for 8 weeks caused significant reduction in the number of growing Graffian follicles and Ijorpora lutf!a, The sUbcutaneous injection of equipotent dose of metoprolol tartrate (7.5 mg/Kg / Day) for 8 weeks caused insignificant effect in the number of growing Graffian follicle and corpora lutea. As the number of growing Graffian follicle represent a parameter for the process of oogenesis and maturation of Graffian fallicle and the number of corpora lutea represent a parameter for ovulation, thus propranolol and nadolol (in the doses used) decreased the process of oogenesls, maturation of Graffian falllcle and ovulation ,1 while metoprolol has no significant effect Induction of ovulation by P.M.S. gonadotrophin caused the same histological change (excessive luteinization and absence of growing Graffian follicles in control, Propranolol and nadolol treated group. The above finding denotes that the inhibitory effect of nadolol and Propranolol on the process of Graffian follicle maturation and ovulation may be due to decrease in F.S.H. and L.H. |
