Abstract Ths study was can-ied out at the Dept. of Anim. Prod., Fac. of Agric., Tanta Unvi. and Mahallet Moussa Anim. Prod. Res. Station, Anim. Prod. Res. Inst., Minisoy of Agriculture during the period from September 1993 until December 1994. A total number of ninety-two buffalo cows were used in two trials. These animals were used to study the reproductive efficiency in postpartum period in relation to resumption of ovarian activity and oestrous manifestation. Their age ranged between 4 and 14 years. The lactating and non-lactating cows were 69 and 23, respectively. They were milked twice daily. Out of the milking time, the animals were kept in semi open and shaded yasds. All buffaloes were bleeded for blood sampling twice weekly (1st trial) and once weekly (2nd trial) before treatment. The blood sampling was continued for the treated buffaloes once before treatment and bidaily for one week and for a pedod of 30 days post-tseatment or to conception by the previous system, which faster. The serum was deepfreezed and kept in - 20 ”C until the assesment of progesterone by the RIA technique. The animals were observed for heat signs four times daily at 6.00 a.m, 12.00 p.m, 6.00 p.m and 12.00 midnight. Heat detection was cassied out with the aid of fertile bull for half an hour during each time. For a period of one month post-treatments heat detection was continued for all animals using the same aforementional procedures. The animals were bred using a highly fertile bull whenever showed oestsous signs. The pregnancy diagnosis was ca~~ioeudt using rectal palpation 60 days after breeding. |
