Abstract

The study was carried out in one of districts of Alexandria gover­ ,rate (Montaza district). The aim of this study was to assess the mangi tude of the needed ma­ ’-mal and child health services in Montaza district in Alexandria, ver­ II the accessible consumable services present. This was through the llawing intermediate targets: 1- Determining the demographic picture of population living in Montaza district to reach mothers and children population in the district. 2- Assessment of the health profile of a sample of the target po­ pulation. 3- Studying the existing maternal and child health service, quali­ tatively and quantitatively. 4- Assessment of the degree of satisfaction of the served popula­ tion. 5- Assessmen t of the def ec t in services. Iree tools were used: record analysis, interviewing schedule, indices . services. to collect the needed data about the target popu­ lation and the health services presented to mothers and children by the year 1986. Interview: two questionnaires were designed and pretested: The first questionnaire was constructed to collect data from mothers of a chosen home sample about their health feature as well as that of their children. The questionnaire was composed of four parts: The first part was designed to collect the identification dat~ of the family, and their socioeconomic status. The second part was designed to collect data about mother’s reproductive history. The third part was designed to get information about the preg­ nancy and delivery of the last child of ’the mother. The fourth part was designed to collect data about the health status of mothers and their last child including past and pre­sent history and general and local examination for both.:: was constructed to collect data from mothers of a chosen sample attended to maternal and child health service units. The questia1naire was composed of three parts: The first part was designed to collect the identification and socioeconomic data of the family. The second part constructed to assess the degree of satisfac­ tion regarding the place. The third part was constructed to assess the mother’s satisfa­ ction regarding the way of dealing with them by the physician and nurse. The health services for mothers and children i was measured in . terms of a conduc ted and expec ted services. , A stratified sample was chosen including 140 mothers a~d their last child, to whome the first questionnairs was presented, and another 200 mothers to whome the second que\tionnaire was presented.
