Abstract Excision of some parts or all of the vulva may cause the tissue of the area to become dense and hard because of scarring. These conditions may cause two major obstetric problems for the woman and the baby: the need for episiotomy, or the incision of excision of excision scar and delaying in the second stage of labour. Thus, the aim of this study consists of three folds; the first fold was to assess the prevalence of female circumcision and its degrees among primiparous women at Assiut University Hospital, the second fold was to assess the impact of female circumcision on the perineal damage among these women and the last fold was to evaluate motives of female circumcision and intention to prepetuate the procedure. The sample was 1000 parturient women which includes 988 circumcised women and only 12 uncircumcised women. Methids of data collection were structured interviewing questionnaire and observational sheets which include assessment sheet to evaluate the degree of circumcision if present and current delivery sheet to follow up the condition up till delivery. |
