Abstract Episiotomy is the most commonly performed operation in obstetrics and yet there is a lack of evidence to support its routine use (Woolley 1995). The aim of the study is of two folds: compare the outcomes of the liberal (routine) and restricted use of eisiotomy and explain the risks of liberal use of eisiotomy. This study was conducted in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department in Assiut University Hospital. The sample were included 600 women divided into teo groups: 1- Routine eisiotomy group: 300 women (39) para (1) and (261) primipara whom delivery was conducted by residents, house officer and researcher who performed routine eisiotomy tp avoid perineal tears, pelvic floor relaxation and their consequences. 2- Restricted eisiotomy group: 300 women (163) para (1) and (137) primipara whom delivary was conducted by the same resident and researcher who tried to avoid an eisiotomy. An interview questionnaire sheet was designed to compare between the restricted and routine eisiotomy groups. Visual analogue scale for assessment of pain. All women were examined at discharge from the hospital, at 24 hrs, 7 days and more then 3 months postpartum or more. |
