Abstract of thP study
Introduction
There is an interest in the handicapped individuals nowadays all over the world . With the modern development in
medicine and the changing attitudes which resulted from the social revolution , the interest in the handiospped individuals has increased . They have boon considered as valuable persons who can be trained and adjusted to play
their roles in life .
The individual’s mental health depends on his ability to adjust himself with the society in which ho liven . This adju:Jtment leads to a life free from trouhle!i (,r problems in which the individual accepts himself and others .
The individual’s adjustment depends on the fulfilment of his needs and motives . In oreder to realize his
self-actualization which can be reached through works and goals achieved by him, therefore , it is essential to study the relation between the achievement motivation and the
psychological adjustment of these studpsts with poliomyelities .

The problem of the study is determined in the following question
Is there any relation between the achievement motivation and the psychological adjustment (personal and social ). with the paralysed students in the secondary stage ?

The researcher presented researches and studies related to the topic of the study . They were classified as follows :
1-Studies tackled the relationship between the achievement motivation and psychological adjustment of different samples .
2-Studies tackled the achievement motivation and the pschological adjustment of the handicapped having children paralysis .
Method and procedures :
1- Sample of the study :
It cosifits of 122 students , males and females , from secondary schools (81 males and 41females ) showing two levels of achievement (high and low ) .
2- Instruments of the study :
a-Achievement Motivation Test prepared by Moh’d Abdul Qader.
b-Adjustment Test of secondary and university students , translated and prepared by Moh’d Othman Nagati (1960).
3- Procedures ;
-Administering the tools of the study to a sample of those who have children paralysis .
-Measuring the crude degrees of the sample on achievement motives scale which divided the subjects into high and low
-Giving the scores of the adjustment scale to every one beside his score in achievement .
-Dividing the sample of the study into four groups , two
related to achievement (high and low ) and two groups related to sex (male and female )
The statistical method :
lhe researcher used the varience analysis technique , 2x2 . Results of the study :
The results of the study showed the following :
1- There are statistically significant differences in the general adjustment and the two healthy-emotional dimensions betwuen the group having children paralysis with high achievement , and the group having children paralysis with low achievement in favour of those with high achievement .
2- There are statistically significant differences in the two dimensions of adjustment (at home and social ) between those
students who have children paralysis and high achievement and those who got low achievement .
3- There are statistically significant differences in the
general adjustment and in the tv.o dimensions of adjustment
°(healthy - emotional ) between the male group that has children paralysis and the female group which ha;; children paralysis in favour of the male group
4- There are no statistically significant differences in the two dimensions of adjustment ( at home and social ) between the group which has children paralysis of the males and that
of the females
5- There are no statistically significant differences in the general adjustment and all its dimensions ( at home - healthy-healthy - social - emotional ) because of the interaction of
the achievement mptivation with sex
