Abstract

Rotator cuff tears are the most common disorder affecting the shoulder, They are either chronic tears (more than 95~iO) and the cause is either intrinsic due to degenerative changes or extrinsic due to impiJ)gement of the supraspinatus outlet on the rotator cuff.111 i\.nterior Acromioplasty and rotator cutT repair as described by Neer in 1972 can be considered the start of the modern era in the treatment of rotator cut! tears insteacl of the more devastating operation of lateral acromionectomy or total acromionectomy performed before. [21 Despite the high success rate of anterior acromioplasty and open rotator cufT repair, ’this technique has some limitations including Deltoid function deficits, rehabilitation problems and func.fiona1restrictions, These are all disadvantages of the approach , and not the repair itself: 131 Recently, many authors advised the use of arthroscopy in 91anagement of different problems of the shoulder. Over the past several years, shoulder arthroscopy has had a profound impact on both the evaluation and treatment of cuff tears. [4,5,6)Arthroscopy offers the advantages of minimal invasive technique keeping deltoid morbidity to mInImUm, rapid rehflbilitation. It also offers the advantage of shorter hospital stay and better cosmeses. (7)Several techniques are available including suture anchors, the bone cutting Giant-Needle and mini-open repair through miniarthrotomy.[4,8,9)
