SUMMARY Introduction
Marriage is the only social relationship between man and women. It is approved of by society which lays the foundations and criteria of
this relationship.
Marriage is one of the essential requirements of development in youth stage, it helps to satisfy physiological and psychological needs of youth as the need for love, sex, understanding and participation, security and stability, self esteem and self actualization.
The happy marital life is that which helps satisfy all these needs and leads to a feeling of marital satisfaction based upon mutual emotions, giving, cooperation and having rights and duties which depend on understanding and mutual thinking between husband and wife.
One of the factors that leads to marital struggle is that psycho-logical needs, social relationships, personality traits, decision making and bringing up children, all of these are not satisfied.
These conflicts, in some cases may leads to divorce which is indicative of the failure of marital life in realizing continuity between the couple. At the same time, there may be conflicts and dissatisfaction with the marital life without divorce. Divorce may be the only means to solve marital conflicts and regain personal happiness after finishing this relationship. Anxiety, though it differs in its forms and indications from one to another has something to do with the marital state. It may be

behoviroural trait of the individual that controls his differents stages of life. It may be connected with marital conflicts, or other factors that cause tension in marital life, or as a result of divorce. Thus the marital state is reflected in the psychology of the individual whether he is married
or divorced. The problem studied:
The problem can be stated in the following questions:
1.Are there any significant differences between the married and the divorced from both sexes in psychological needs, marital satisfaction, marital conflicts and anxiety?
2.Are there any significant differences bettween the married and the divorced from the men in the psychological variables of the study?
3.Are there any significant differences between the married and the divorced women in the psychological variables of the study?
4.Are there any significant differences between the divorced men and the divorced women in the psychological variables of the study?
5.Can all these variables be gathered in one group of factors? The purpose of study :
The purpose of the present study is to point out the differences between the married and the divorced from both sexes in some psychological

variables as psychological needs, marital satisfaction, marital conflicts and anxiety in addition to this, the results of this study may help some people who work in the field of marital direction and counsieling, parti-cularly offices of family directions and counsieling. Instruments used in the study:
1.General information sheet by Eglal Serri. This sheet was modified by the researcher.
2.Psychological needs questionnaire prepared by the researcher.
3.Marital satisfaction scale by Veula Al Beblowi.
4.Marital conflicts questionnaire prepared by the researcher.
5.A list of anxiety traits and state by Amina Kazem.
6.Personal interview sheet by Salah Mekhemer.
7.Thematic apperception test. Sample :
The sample of the study consisted of 60 married men, 60 married women, 37 from the divorced men and 35 from the divorced women. The sample then included university employees and goverment employees. They are all Muslems. They included university graduates and technical schools gradua-tes. The minimum of marriage period is one year and the minimum of divorce
is one years. They are all from the middle class, their ages ranged from 23 to 50 years. Statistical analysis:
The researcher used the following statistical methods :
-Mean.
-Standard deviation.
-Skewness coefficient.
-T test.
-Factor analysis. Results:
1.There are significant differences between the married and divorced from both sexes in all dimension of psychological needs as the need for sex, love, reproductiveness, security and stability, understanding and participation, self esteem, self actualization in favor of the married.
2.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced from both sexes in the dimensions of marital satisfaction as measured by the scale used in this study except for roles orientation.
3.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced from both sexes in the dimensions of marital conflicts in favor of the divorced.
4.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced
from both sexes in the list of state and trait of anxiety in favor of the divorced.
5.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced from men in psychological needs in favor of the married.
6.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced from men in the dimensions of marital satisfaction as measured by the scale used in the present study except for family history of distress.
7.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced from men in marital conflicts in favor of the divorced.
8.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced
from men in the list of state and trait of anxiety in favor of the divorced.
9.There are significant differences between the married and the divorced
from women in the dimensions of psychological needs in favor of married women.
10.There are significant differences between the married women and the divorced women in the dimensions of marital satisfaction as measured by
the scale used in the present study except for roles orientation and family history distress.
11.There are significant differences between the married women and the divorced women in all dimensions of marital conflicts, in favor of the divorced women, except for bringing up their children.
12.There are significant differences between the married women and the divorced women in the list of state and traits of anxiety in favor ’of the divorced women.
13.There are no significant differences between the married men and the married women in the dimensions of psychological needs except for the need for sex there are significant differences in favor of the married men.
14.There are no significant differences between the married men and the married women in the dimensions of the marital satisfaction as measured by the scale used in the present study except for the roles orientation, dissatisfaction about the relation among parents and children, conflicts concerning bringing up children, there are significant differences in favor of the married women.
15.There are significant differences between the married men and the married women in the following dimensions of the marital conflicts, needs, making decisions in favor of the married women except for the social relations, the traits of personality and bringing up children.
16.There are significant differences between the married men and the married women in the dimensions of state and traits of anxiety.
17. There are significant differences between the divorced men and the divorced women in the following psychological needs; need for sex, need for security and stability, need for actualization in favor of the divorced men, except for the need for love, the need for reproductive-
ness, need for understanding and participation and the need for self esteem.
18. There are no significant differences between the divorced men and the
divorced women in the dimensions of the marital satisfaction as measured
by the scale used in the present study, except for the finincial
conflicts, there are significant differences in favor of the divorced
men and roles orientations in favor of the divorced women.
19. There are no significant differences between the divorced men and the divorced women in the dimensions of the marital conflicts except for
bringing up children, there are significant differences in favor of the divorced men.
20. There are significant differences between the divorced, men and the divorced women, in trait anxiety in favor of the divorced women whereas
there is no significant differences between divorced men and women in state anxiety.
21. The variables of the present study were collected to represent psycho-
logical needs, marital satisfaction, marital conflicts and anxiety in a group of factors.
8 DISCUSSION
The researcher has discussed and interpreted the results of the study in the light of the theoretical framework and previous studies so as to show similalrities and dissimilarities in results between such studies
and the present one.
