Abstract

Bronchial asthma is one of the most chronic conditions that has been increasing both in prevalence and severity over the last decade particularly in the young population. Morbidity and mortality rates of asthmatics are increasing despite the marked improvement in prescribed asthma therapy. Many countries have recorded a rise in hospital admission rates for asthma especially in children. Asthma is a condition that may alter or interfere with the daily life of the child and his/her family. Its management has many facets directed towards various related problems and complications. A descriptive study on 200 children with bronchial asthma was conducted at Assiut University Hospital in order to identify maternal knowledge and practice regarding risk factors 0 bronchial asthma for preschool children .The study was carried out through using a questionnaire sheet which was designed specifically for this study to collect data related to maternal knowledge and practice for their children during bronchial asthma. The questionnaire sheet included questions about socio-dernographic data related to the children and their families, previous and current health history of the children, and the mothers’ knowledge and practice regarding bronchial asthma. The most important results of the present study were: - The mean age of the mi hers was 25.5 ± 4.52 years. - The majority of the ml.fhers (47.5%) wrre illiterate, while only 5% reached the university level of education. 3. 91.5% of the studied mothers were housewives, while only 7.5% of them were working.
