Abstract

The present study is a prospective randomized study and included 100 clients who were attended at family planning center in Assiut city (50 clients in study group and the other 50 in the control group) and were followed up every 3 months during the period of study (from October, 2004’to September, 2005). in this study, the majority of female clients were between 20- 40 years of age, of intermediate degrees of education, house wires, intermediate income, having >5 family members and live with the big I family The majority of husbands were between 30-50 years of age, .of intermediate degrees 0 education, and having manual work. The clients were randomized into two groups; the study group (50 clients) and the con+1 group (50 clients). Pretest evaluation was done for women in both groups & showed that there was no statistically significant deference between both groups regarding the presence of FP knowledge, source of FP knowledge, previous use of FP methods & reasons of FP discontinuation. Counseling program was only done for husbands. of female clients in the study group to evaluate its effect on the initial and continual use of female contraceptive methods. posttest evaluation done immediately,3,6,9&12 months after counseling program was done & showed that the initial use & the final continuation rate of using FP methods were statistically significant higher in favor of women in study group when compared to that in the control group.
