Abstract Sunflower is an important oil crop in the world. It ranks the second after soybeans with respect to oil production in the world (Yearbook of Agric. FAO, 1990). In Egypt, 1,129000 Mg of oils is consume annually but till now we produce only 153,000 Mg. This means that we produce only about 13.55% of all our needs and import about 86.45% (976,000 Mg). (oilseed situation and outlook 2002) So, Egypt costs about 3.22 million Egyptian pound (LE.) to cover this deficiency, To cover the shortage of oil requirement in Egypt, we must increase the planted area of sunflower especially in new lands which can be grown individually or beside anther crops and it can be grown more than one time in the same year. But the main problems limit the increase in total planted area of sunflower in new lands concentrated in planting, threshing and drying process. from the point of view, the main purpose of this study is to evaluate pneumatic planters suitable for sowing sunflower crop compared with traditional method, and evaluating the threshing machinery for threshing sunflower heads. In addition to evaluate the drying sunflower seeds- losses after mechanical threshing as a suggestion solution for increasing the production of sunflower seeds in Egypt. |
