Abstract
In this investigation the wear characteristics of gearing of the double cirular-arc tooth-profile are studied and compared with those of ordinary helical inviolate gears the double circular-arc tooth-profile milling gear cutter is designed and manufactured the gear test rig is of the direct power transmission type where the two gears under test are drives by a 12 hp motor at constant speed of 2500 r.p.m.
The test gears are loaded by a fuel plunger pump directly coupled to the driven shaft wear of the test gears is measured through measuring the increase in backlash after each period of running it is found that the change of tooth stiffness along the path of tooth. Contact causes uneven wear along the tooth face a lead power factor of 0.8 has been numerically deduced to give a relation between the increase of wear with the increase of transmitted power.
