Abstract Two groups of female Baladi goats are used to test the effect of using different roughage: concentrate (R:C) ratios in the rations on their productivity and some relevant blood biochemical parameters. Group I (n=8 fed 30 :70% R:C ratio) and group II (n=7 fed 70 30% R:C ratio) on the basis of 32 starch equivalent (SE) and 2.5 g digestible protein (DP) before and throughout the gestation period (5 months). Hay and co-operative feed are used as roughage and concentrate respectively. Blood samples are collected once monthly from the date of identification of conception and one week postpartum. Significant differences due to both treatments and sampling dates are detected in the cases of total protein, globulin, total cholesterol, lipids and sgot. Significant differences only due to sampling dates are noted in cases of albumin, A/6 ratio, T3 and progesterone. |
