Abstract

A total of 507 young new zealand white rabbits and 24 mature does are used. Animals are made available from the small animal breeding, hohenheim university, stuttgart-west germany. The study includes 3 eXperiments. The first experiment is worked out to investigate the effect of different levels of nutrition on reproductive and productive performance of the mothers as follows: group 1 of 6 females fed on pellets containing 20% total protein group 2 of six females fed on pellets containing 20% protein supplemented with green mixed hay, group 3 of six females fed on pellets containing 15% protein and group 4 of six does fed on pellets containing 15% protein supplemented with green hay. The second experiment Is designed to study the effect of weaning time on productivity of both mothers and litters , every previous experimental group is divided equally into 3 subgroups-treatments to be weaned at 21, 25 and /or 29 days old. The third experiment is designed to investigate the relationship between nutritional levels and growth traits and feed effeciency of litters. The first group is fed ad libitum on a ration which contains 15% protein soon after weaning. The second group is fed on a ration containing 15% protein plus green hay soon after weaning.
