Abstract

The aims of this work are to elucidate the status of water movement, hydraulic conductivity and infiltration rates in calcareous and alluvial soils and to find the simple and multiple correlations as well as direct and indirect effect on water movement. Results obtained indicate that the increase of hydraulic conductivity in the calcareous soils is a result of the increase of total drainable pores. The added O.m. for both the two soils has a significant positive effect on soil porosity. ESP in the alluvial soil decreases total and quick drainable pores as well as total porosity. Also the magnitude with the increase of TSS is not pronounced for the soils having high ESP values and low levels of o.m.
