Abstract The present work is carried out to investigate the genesis and formation of clay layers in alkali soils. Eleven soil profiles characterized by clayey subsurface from different locations are selected. After being examined morphologically in situ, samples representing different variations are collected and subjected to physical, chemical, mineralogical and imicropedological studies. Results are discussed in the light of the criteria given for diagnostic horizons (argillic, cambic and agric) in a trial to find out a discriptive nomenclature of more qualitative nature, if possible to+ our soils. comparing the obtained results with definitions mentioned in Soil Taxonomy (1975) for agrillic, cambric and agric horizons, it is more liable that subsurface clayey layers could be agric horizon due to soil forming factors prevailing in the studied area. |
