Abstract The effect of nitrogen addition and the use of the isolated active ratters as starter are studied. The most important results obtained in this study are Urea, ammonium sulfate and ammonium phosphate accelerate the retting action than the other nitrogen sources .2) ammonium phosphate accelerate is the best since reduces retting by 407 3) the 1% nitrogen treatment proves to be the best economical level in accelerating the retting process. 4) saccharolytic organisms and aerobic pectinolytic organisms reach their highest percentage in total microbial flora on the 5th, and 3 rd, day of retting 5) PH values decrease up to the 1st, day of retting then slightly increase except for ammaoium phosphate treatment being always at the lowest levels. 6) total nitrogen content of retted material slightly decreases as retting progresses. 7) cellulose content in the retted materials increases as retting progresses, being more pronounced in nitrogen treatments. |
