Abstract

The electromagnetic environment associated with high voltage AC transmission system continuous to generate issues of some concern. The environment effects of electic fields have been studied since the mid 1960`s. but the effects of magnetic fields gained publicity only during the last decade as a result of several controversial epidemiological studies.
The egyptian extra high voltage EHV transmission network includes about 2249km of 500kv lines about 11909km of 220kv lines. it is worth to mention that along lenghts of this network cross populated areas such as bassous, shoubra el-khiema and el-khosous, suburbs of greater cairo. Acoordingly, it appears desireable to evaluate to magnetic field distributions in populated areas close to EHV transmission lines.
The current study presents a comparative risk analysis due to the exposure to magnetic fields of EHV transmission lines 500kv and 220kv. Simualtion of a house with different orientations and proximity to 500kv and 220kv transmission line is presented to assess the magnetic field distribution inside the simulated louse at different heights above ground.
The employed magnetic field computational technique is a 3-D method which simulates the AC power line configuration in a very accurate way. This work presents not only a theoretical simulation of a house in the proximity of EHV transmission lines but also actual magnetic field distributions inside typical houses in populated areas nearby the 500kv and 220kv transmission.
Another type of heavy exposure to magnetic fields is accup[tional exposure during live line maintenance. This work presents the magnetic field distributions over the lineman body for different positions at the 500kv and 220kv line towers during live line maintenance conditions.
