Abstract The ideal abdomen is formed by a proper relationship between the osteomuscular system, the subcutaneous adipose tissue, and the quantity of the overlying skin. This gives the aesthetic contour of prominences well visible by light reflexes, and depression by shadows. The topographic surface anatomy defined by the aesthetic units of the abdomen should be evaluated and treated as indicated. There are seven units in women and six units in men. The appearance of aesthetic abdomen must be taken in consideration, which has medial sulcus in the upper abdomen, two shadows of the semilunar line that join over the pubis and two protuberance between the shadows beginning in the thorax and join under the umbilicus with prominence below it. Abdominoplasty is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures that have a rich and varied evolution, it covers a range of surgical procedures aiming at improving abdominal contour, treating excessive redundant skin and adipose tissue and in closing the muscular diastasis Several authors created useful classifications of abdominoplasty on the basis of subcutaneous excess fat, skin deformity, and rectus diastasis and abdominal deformities. The evolution of refinements in abdominoplasty has got many scopes & aims to reach, different authors have designed different techniques to alleviate the defects in body contour. The common aspects in all the techniques are the use of liposuction in combination with abdominoplasty, hiding the scars inside abdominal aesthetic units. |
