Abstract While patients, doctors, and researchers hope that these initial retinal cells transplants will either halt vision loss or restore sight, it was found that it is the most direct way to solve the problem, the degenerating photoreceptors and/or RPE. The hypotheses are rational; healthy cells can replace degenerated ones. Retinal cells transplantation research targets macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. Other diseases that might be helped are Stargardt’s disease, familial drusen, and dystrophy of RPE after neovascular membrane removal. The causes of the diseases are largely unknown, and there is currently no treatment available that can reverse the degenerative process |
